John joined Birketts in 1992. He is a consultant with the firm.
John specialises in commercial law for the shipping, transport and related industries, conflict of laws within Europe, intellectual property, electronic data exchange and computer law. John has over 30 years' commercial law experience. This included four years as the chief executive of a major plc operating in the field of maritime cargo.

A graduate of Cambridge University and the Merchant Navy, John also holds a Masters Degree (with distinction) in European Community Law. By personal invitation, John is Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany in East Anglia. Similarly he has held a number of personal directorships over the years including the Chairmanship of Tullemache and Cobbold Brewery Limited up to the time of its sale to Ridleys (and thereafter Greene King plc). He is described by clients in Legal 500 [2005] as "... efficient, knowledgeable, totally reliable...".
