Birketts highly commended in Legal 500 rankings

Birketts has again been confirmed as one of East Anglia's and the South East’s leading law firms, in the Legal 500 [UK 2012] rankings.

According to the directory, "The firm delivers a high-quality legal service, delivered by professionals who are experts in their fields and who are good communicators, straightforward and easy to deal with, reliable and trustworthy."

No fewer than 30 of the firm's services have this year been given rankings across Birketts’ offices in Ipswich, Norwich and Cambridge (which the directory categorises as 'East Anglia') and Chelmsford (which is classed as ‘South East: Essex’).

The year has seen improvements in the rankings of the firm across the board and has resulted in 22 tier 1 rankings for the firm, up from 18 last year.

Particular highlights include:

The firm’s charities team moved up into Band 1
‘Advice is very prompt and value for money is very good’ at Birketts LLP, where the ‘succinct and clear’ James Hall’s ecclesiastical law expertise is ‘invaluable; he always endeavours to simplify matters’. 

Commercial Property, Cambridge moved up in the rankings
The commercial property team is part of a ‘a progressive firm providing a modern, bespoke service’, with Kath Herbert and Jonathan Greenhalgh praised for their ‘prompt, personal approach’. 

The dispute resolution team in Chelmsford moved to Band 1
Birketts LLP’s ‘solid’ team acted for the claimant in a contentious probate case at the High Court, and represented a telecoms client in a cross-border ADR matter. Daden Hunt was promoted to practice head in June 2011.

The corporate and commercial, Cambridge moved up in the rankings
Birketts LLP’s ‘very strong Cambridge practice’ acted in the acquisition of NCS Survey for Acteon Group, and in a £4.25m MBO of ASL for Matrix Private Equity Partners. Adrian Seagers is ‘experienced and commercial’.

The employment team secured a Band 1 ranking for all offices
Birketts LLP’s reputation as a ‘number-one firm in the area’ for employment is thanks in no small part to the expertise of Jolyon Berry, Jeanette Wheeler, Matthew Newnham and Tom Wagstaff.

The environment team in East Anglia moved up in the rankings
Tom Newcombe and Philip Kratz were recognised as boosting the firm’s planning and environment capability in Cambridge, and Laura Thomas for defending environment-related prosecutions.

The planning team moved to Band 1
Richard Eaton’s team at Birketts LLP is ‘practical, listens to clients’ needs and delivers on time’. The ‘approachable, diligent’ Tom Newcombe was recognised alongside Philip Kratz who joined the firm in the last year and provides ‘sound advice’. 

The private client team in Chelmsford moved to Band 1
Tim Galloway’s ‘excellent’ team at Birketts LLP provides ‘cutting-edge, City-standard advice’. 

In IT and Telecoms, the Chelmsford team moved up in the rankings and it was a new appearance in the rankings for the ‘East Anglia’ IT lawyers.

Birketts LLP has intensified its focus on the IT sector . . . Mark Gipson and Adrian Possener are ‘very good all round’.
