Published: 22/04/2013

Following the success of last year's event, the Birketts Round Norfolk Relay returns in 2013 on the weekend of 14/15th September.

The Birketts' Round Norfolk Relay is an annual demanding team relay race around Norfolk. Each team consists of 17 runners who cover 197 miles in 24 hours with stages varying between 5 to 20 miles.

The first teams leave Kings Lynn at 5.30am on Saturday morning racing through the night into Sunday morning, passing the baton at each leg of the route which mirrors Norfolk’s county borders.

This unique event had a record entry of 58 teams last year with local running clubs performing well with the City of Norwich AC winning the coveted Club Class trophy.

New for 2013 is the introduction of the Mixed Class. This new team will require a minimum of 9 females, regardless of age in a team of 17 runners. The existing classes Open, Club, Masters and Ladies will remain unchanged.

Clubs based in Norfolk and members of the Norfolk Road Running Committee entered the race during a two week ‘window’ 1st April - 14th April prior to the entry being opened to all.

The priority entry is now closed, other teams are being invited to apply for vacancies, using an on-line application, stating the class for which they are applying. This period will last from 15th - 28th April
