Teams at Birketts raise over £12,000 for Walking With The Wounded
Birketts, the full service, top 100 law firm based in the East of England, has raised over £12,000 for a local charity, with eight teams taking part in this year’s ‘Walking With The Wounded’ Cumbrian Challenge on Saturday 16 May.
All teams took on the ‘Tough’ challenge – a 20km hike, 1,300m of altitude gain, with the exception of The Suffolk Sherpas (Carol Ramsden, Richard Eaton, Hayley McCulloch and Laura Tanguay) who bravely/naively took on the ‘Tougher’ route – 29km hike, 1,800m of altitude gain.
While everyone was rewarded with stunning (and literally breath-taking) views of the Lake District, the leading team from Birketts was Legal Heights (Nigel Farthing, Chris Schwer, Jonathan Agar and Shaun Savory) who managed to complete the challenge in 06:11:31.
Jonathan Agar, chief executive officer at Birketts, commented: “This was an excellent opportunity to help others, challenge ourselves and accomplish something remarkable with friends. The money is still coming in but so far we’ve raised around £12,000 for this very worthy cause. A special thank you to the 32 people who took part but also to everyone who helped to raise funds and gave up their time for what was unforgettable weekend with colleagues from all four of our offices.”
Andy Sloan, events manager for Walking With The Wounded said: “Every team that takes part in the Cumbrian Challenge supports another wounded veteran back into work so we are hugely grateful for the incredible and ongoing support from Birketts. It was very special to see the enthusiasm with which their eight teams worked together to complete the challenge and raise so much money for our programmes in Norfolk and across the UK.”
Established in 2010, Walking With The Wounded’s mission is to support ex-service men and women with physical, mental or social injury to gain the skills and qualifications necessary to develop new careers outside the military, re-integrate into society and provide long-term security for themselves and their families.
Birketts was recognised for its corporate social responsibility work at the prestigious Pride of Essex Awards in November 2014.
