Birketts out in force to raise thousands for Walking With The Wounded

Published: 20/05/2016

Birketts, the full service, top 100 law firm based in the East of England, has raised over £10,000 for the Norfolk-based charity by participating with inspirational wounded servicemen and women over the stunning peaks of the Lake District in this year’s 'Walking With The Wounded’ Cumbrian Challenge.

Birketts entered seven teams and on a fine sunny day, in ideal walking conditions, everyone was rewarded with literally breath-taking views of the Lake District. One team undertook the shorter ‘Peak’ course, five teams completed the 24k ‘Tough’ course and found it more challenging than last year, but the real heroes were the two teams (and two dogs) who completed the 32k ‘Tougher’ course.

Nigel Farthing, senior partner and sponsor of the CSR committee at Birketts, who walked ‘The Tough’ course commented: “Walking With The Wounded was established in 2010 to raise funds for the re-education and re-training of wounded servicemen and women to help them find a career, so that they can support themselves and re-build a life in the civilian work place. The money is still coming in but so far we’ve raised around £10,000 for this very worthy cause. A special thank you to the 28 people who took part and everyone who helped to raise funds across our four offices.”

Walking With The Wounded partnership and events manager Andy Sloan said: “Every team that takes part in the Cumbrian Challenge supports another wounded veteran back into work so we are hugely grateful for the incredible and ongoing support from Birketts. It was very special to see the enthusiasm with which their seven teams worked together to complete the challenge and raise so much money for our programmes in Norfolk and across the UK. The event this year has already raised more than £175,000 with fundraising monies still coming in.”
