East Anglia is an important centre for technology businesses and the number of these continues to grow. The need for good advice from specialists who have expertise in this field is needed more than ever. The team offers specialist skills to those companies and businesses whose principal activities fall within the broad definition of telecommunications, media and technology. Whilst in many cases, the needs of these businesses are no different from any other client, they do have special requirements, especially in terms of the intangible assets which are so important to their day-to-day operation. The team includes members drawn from a number of different disciplines, but all of whom have particular experience in dealing with those involved in TMT.
The team is led by partner James Austin, and enjoys a leading reputation in the region for the depth of its experience. It includes Katherine Shadbolt, a Trade Mark Agent, who advises clients on all aspects of patent issues and trade mark law, including licensing and worldwide registration strategies. On contentious matters she is supported by partner Matthew Atkins who also advises on a wide range of technology issues having completed an LLM in Technology and Telecommunications Law at Strathclyde University. Annette Whybrow is a former member of the Copyright Tribunal in London.
Our clients tell us that they benefit from the combined skills of lawyers in the team, each of whom has a particular strength. Testament to this policy is our recruitment of Rachel Greenhalgh, previously in-house counsel with Generics Group AG, the international technology consulting business, who brings with her considerable experience of exploitation agreements relating to new technologies, but in particular intellectual property licensing.
Our principal services include:
- Agency and distribution arrangements (European and International)
- Soft IP/Hard IP licensing, and trade mark protection
- Contracts for the provision of goods and services
- Exploitation and licensing of information and communications technologies
