Will and Estate Planning

"The team has established a noted profile in will planning and capital taxes, in which the firm is regarded as having more technical expertise than many others."
Chambers' Guide to the Legal Profession 2005

The team has a long history of giving clear and technical advice to the firm's clients on succession planning issues.  This includes detailed tax planning and practical advice with an emphasis on secure long term strategies.

Advice includes the setting up and breaking of trusts and the arrangements of clients' affairs so as to maximise use of tax reliefs and exemptions.

Recent and current planning advice includes inter-family deals involving the purchase of land by parents from children (and children’s trusts) to secure relief from inheritance tax on the estates of the parents.  The anticipated tax savings are many hundreds of thousands of pounds.  Other schemes involve exchanges of houses between parents and children and circumventing the extremely difficult reservation of benefit rules.

The team regularly advises owners of rural, agricultural and heritage property, particularly on the management of wealth through the use of trusts and on the tax reliefs available to the owners of landed estates and their businesses.

The team is inventive, skilled and very much in touch with reality.
