Birketts hosted local businesses and former Ryder Cup player Ronan Rafferty at their annual golf day in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), raising more than £20,000 for the charity.

Almost 100 players from 25 businesses played in blustery conditions at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club on 29 April, with charitable golfers digging into their pockets to support EACH’s work caring for children and young people with life-threatening conditions.

Despite the below par weather, all involved were in great spirits on the course, with participants also taking part in longest drive and nearest the pin challenges, as well as a charity auction at the end of the day which raised more than £9,000 alone. Keen golfers also had the chance to ‘beat the Pro’ in a one-on-one challenge against former European Tour No 1, Ronan.

Billie Nugent, EACH Corporate Fundraiser, explained what the generous donation means to the charity: “Days like these are a huge boost to our fundraising efforts, and every penny given goes towards supporting children, young people and their families across Cambridge, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

“These donations fund our Clinical Nurse Specialists providing symptom management care, fund counselling sessions for bereaved families, and fund respite for carers to ease the pressure of 24-hour care. Birketts’ golf day is a perfect example of our region’s businesses supporting us, so thank you to the firm and every team that donated to take part.”

Chris Schwer, Partner at Birketts and Trustee of EACH, said: “Thank you to everyone who got involved and so generously helped to support such an essential and worthy local charity. As a firm, Birketts is committed to supporting the communities we come from – it’s why EACH was our chosen charity of the year for 2021 and why we continue to support EACH with events like these.”
