Able2B benefit from pro bono legal work
17 July 2018
Leading East Anglian law firm Birketts, recently advised Able2B on the assignment of an existing gymnasium lease which will, in part, benefit children and adults with a disability.
Able2B, a community interest company which aims to allow children and adults with a disability to participate in active sport and realise their goals, is run by Rachael Hutchinson (a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in neurodisability at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital) and Jon Thaxton (a former European champion boxer).
Thanks to the pro-bono legal advice received from Chris Coupland at Birketts, Able2B have moved to a new gym site in Gilchrist Close, Norwich, allowing the group to reach a wider audience and expand their services.
Dr Hutchinson said: “We are grateful to Birketts and the Norfolk ProHelp Group for their support. Their assistance ensures that we can continue to run classes to allow anyone, whatever their disability, to achieve a successful work-out and push back the boundaries of their disability.”
Dr Hutchinson, continued: “Disability can make exercise difficult but we have seen huge success, with the classes improving the physical, mental and social wellbeing of participants.”
Chris Coupland, a Partner in Birketts’ Norwich office said: “We are members of the Norfolk ProHelp Group and through that scheme we actively consider local pro bono initiatives that can make a real difference to disadvantaged members of our community. I’m delighted that our help has allowed Able2B to move to a new gym site so that Rachael and Jon can continue their work in supporting children and adults with disabilities.”
