Rafael Ruiz, Head of Birketts' Corporate and Commercial team in Chelmsford, commented: “I’m delighted to announce that in our final race Birketts will once again be supporting Little Havens. We have previously partnered with Little Havens as our race charity, and we know the positive impact that money raised has upon families throughout Essex. I would like to encourage businesses throughout the region to register via our website today and start their fundraising efforts to support this fantastic charity."
Rafael added: “Having established the race 21 years ago, and organised it every year since then, we feel that the race has ‘come of age’ and that it is time for us to share our time and resources across a number of local good causes, with less focus on one major event and charity each year. We will expand our CSR and charity initiatives to support a variety of projects, and will of course continue to support the Essex Community Foundation.
When the Race4Business was first dreamt-up in 1998 we had no idea what a success it would be and to have raised almost £600,000 for good causes due to the support of the local business community is staggering. The race has become an annual fixture in the diary for many Essex businesses, as a great opportunity to meet up and have fun with colleagues and other businesses, whilst raising money for charitable causes at the same time. That’s why we are delighted to announce that after partnering with us for this year’s race, Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens for adults, Little Havens for children and The J’s Hospice for young people, will take on the Race4Business as their own fund raising event in 2020 and beyond.
We very much hope that the business community in Chelmsford and across Essex will come together again to support the Birketts Race4Business this year, and will join us in supporting Havens Hospices to continue the success of the Race4Business in future years. In the meantime we want to express our thanks to all those people who have generously supported the race over the past 21 years.
Lydia Plews, Senior Business Development Officer at Little Havens, said, “We’re so excited to have been chosen by Birketts to be their beneficiary charity for the 21st Race4Business event. Little Havens is also in its 21st year of caring for babies, children and teenagers from across Essex who have life-limiting conditions. Our Care Team provides respite and end of life care to families when they need it most, and that is only possible thanks to the support of the community and businesses like Birketts. We hope to see lots of people from across Essex running in support of Little Havens!”
Birketts’ Race4Business is open to individuals and teams from the Essex business community and beyond, with each runner being given an individual timing chip to ensure accurate results. The 3.5 mile race, which is mainly flat and suitable for runners of all abilities, starts in Chelmsford town centre, goes through Central Park, West Park, Admirals Park and Tower Gardens before finishing at the back of Birketts’ offices on Bradford Street. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest male and female runners, the fastest team, the biggest team and the team with the best fancy dress.
