Birketts has entered 11 teams into this year’s Cumbrian Challenge in aid of Walking With The Wounded.
The Cumbrian Challenge 2018, now in its sixth year, will take place in Grasmere, Cumbria, on Saturday 19 May. There are three potential routes, catering for varying levels of physical fitness and determination: Peak (15km, 700m of climbing), Tough (23km, 1250m of climbing), Tougher (29km, 1875m of climbing).
Walking With The Wounded was established in 2010 to raise funds for the re-education and re-training of wounded servicemen and women to help them find a career, so that they can support themselves and re-build a life in the civilian work place.
Nigel Farthing, Partner and sponsor of the CSR committee at Birketts, commented: “Each team of four will participate alongside inspirational wounded servicemen and women over the stunning peaks of the Lake District. As a past participant I know first-hand that the Cumbrian Challenge provides a huge personal development opportunity for all those involved; team building, morale and fitness, while raising much needed funds for a fantastic cause. This is an excellent opportunity to help others, challenge ourselves and accomplish something remarkable with friends and colleagues from all four of our offices.”
Walking With The Wounded’s Partnership and Events Manager, Andy Sloan said: “It is fantastic to have the ongoing support of the teams from Birketts. This will be the fourth year Birketts have taken part and they’ve collectively raised more than £30,000 for our programmes across the UK transforming the lives of the ex-servicemen and women we support. It is a real pleasure to see their teams work together in advance and on the day to support each other, achieve their goals and support the cause with such enthusiasm.”
