Matthew is an Associate in Birketts’ Private Client Advisory Team. He is a Full Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), having passed the STEP Diploma with a Distinction.

Matthew’s diverse client base spans East Anglia, London and the South East, where he advises on matters across the private client advisory spectrum.

Matthew is experienced in dealing with complex probate issues, including advising on intestate estate administrations, cross-border estates and estates involving agricultural farming aspects. Matthew has a particular interest in dealing with contentious estate administrations (including those where Birketts have accepted appointments as independent administrators) and continues to further develop his expertise in this area.

From a succession perspective, Matthew advises clients in relation to all areas of estate planning during their lifetime. This includes the preparation of wills and powers of attorney (together with advising on issues arising out of the same), in addition to advising on taxation and administration of trusts.

Matthew is also able to advise on mental capacity issues, including how best to support those who are unable to manage their own personal and financial affairs.

Matthew studied History at the University of Southampton, before converting to law. He successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, before undertaking his training contract at a large regional law firm in Kent.
