Rhiannon is a Senior Associate in our Private Client Advisory Team, based in Ipswich. Rhiannon joined Birketts as a trainee in September 2013, and qualified in 2015 when she joined the Private Client department.

Rhiannon deals with all aspects of private client work, including wills, probate, trusts and powers of attorney. In particular, she has a keen interest in effective tax and estate planning, agricultural property and agricultural estate planning. Rhiannon also works extensively with the Contentious Probate Team in providing a full service to clients in matters concerning probate disputes. Recently, Rhiannon’s work has included complex deeds of variation to provide more tax-efficient estate planning, and working with Birketts’ Agricultural Department in relation to structuring farming partnerships in conjunction with wills to ensure that family planning arrangements reflect parties’ interests and wishes. The ever-changing nature of family relationships has also meant Rhiannon has been involved in advising clients on declarations of trust where parties are making unequal contributions to the purchase or where parties have differing views on what should happen to their shares in the property in the event of their death or relationship breakdown. In this respect, Rhiannon works closely with Birketts’ Family and Matrimonial Department in advising clients following divorce on their wills and balancing the competing interests of the client and potential future Inheritance Act claims.

Additionally, Rhiannon has been involved in providing legal advice to trustees of large trusts, involving complex family and trust arrangements. This has included liaising with third parties, such as land agents, accountants and international experts, as well as managing the competing demands and expectations of the various interested parties. Rhiannon is able to advise a wide range of clients on their personal affairs, from those with more modest assets to those who require more detailed and involved estate planning matters.

Rhiannon completed her STEP qualification with a distinction in 2019. She was also part of creating the recent IP1 Network; a professional networking group which holds various events throughout the year, enabling young professionals to expand their professional network in the local area.

Rhiannon is also a qualified notary public, able to notarise documents for use anywhere in the world. Please see our notary page for further information.
