Birketts is pleased to announce it has been ranked fifth among the UK’s top planning law firms in the latest Planning Law Survey, published by Planning Resource.
Now in its 29th year, the annual survey – widely regarded as a key benchmark of excellence across the planning sector – draws on feedback from planning consultants, developers and barristers to identify the firms and individuals making the greatest impact on the UK planning landscape.
This year’s results highlight Birketts’ continued strength in the field, recognising the firm’s planning and environmental team for its depth of expertise, commercial insight and client-focused approach.
In addition to the firm’s overall ranking, Nicola Gooch and Steven Bell achieved individual rankings of second and third place respectively, while Karen Luxton-Walsh ranked 18th, reflecting their standout contribution to the profession.
Feedback from respondents praised Birketts for being “very professional” and avoiding “unnecessary difficulties”, highlighting its “exceptional community engagement”.
The firm was also commended for “bridging the gap between law and commerciality”, with one respondent stating: “They provide commercially palatable solutions, rather than just getting you through the system.”
The recognition underlines Birketts’ reputation for delivering high-quality, practical legal advice across a broad range of planning and environmental matters. It builds on a strong track record for the team, which is widely acknowledged as one of the leading practices in the UK.
Tom Newcombe, Partner and Head of Planning and Environmental at Birketts, said: “We are delighted to see Birketts again recognised in this year’s Planning Law Survey. To be ranked fifth among the UK’s leading firms for planning and environmental law is a fantastic honour and reflects the hard work and commitment of our entire team.
“Congratulations also to Nicola, Steven and Karen on their well-deserved individual recognition. This result demonstrates the strength and depth of talent we have within the team.
“We remain focused on providing clear, commercial and responsive advice to our clients, and it is particularly rewarding to see this reflected in feedback from across the industry.”
The Planning Law Survey continues to provide a valuable snapshot of the evolving planning law market, highlighting both established leaders and emerging talent within the sector. Birketts’ latest ranking further reinforces its position as a trusted adviser on complex planning and environmental matters nationwide.
