Birketts’ Liz Brownsell and Jennifer Marley have been appointed by the Charity Commission as Interim Managers of the London Spiritual Mission.
With the appointments taking effect on 31 July 2026, Liz, Partner and Head of Charities at Birketts, and Jennifer, a Senior Associate in the firm’s charities team, will oversee the management of the charity’s property and affairs, assuming the responsibilities of charity trustees. Working independently and in collaboration with the charity’s key stakeholders, they will seek to establish a sustainable governance structure for the future of the London Spiritual Mission, protect its charitable assets and support the implementation of arrangements that best further its charitable purposes.
The appointments follow a successful tender process from a list of approved practitioners on which Liz and Jennifer are included.
An Interim Manager is appointed by the Charity Commission as one of its most significant regulatory interventions. An Interim Manager is appointed after careful consideration of alternative solutions to the problems and/or risks faced by a charity and where it is satisfied that the appointment is proportionate in the circumstances.
