Michael joined Birketts as a Trainee Solicitor in September 2020.
Michael is based in our Cambridge office and is sitting his final seat with the Agriculture and Estates Team, where he assists the team in advising clients on a variety of agricultural land transactions. Michael previously sat with the Agriculture and Estates Team in the Norwich office, where he dealt with agricultural tenancies; farm and land acquisitions and disposals; secured lending; succession planning; and general estate management matters.
His first seat was spent with the Housebuilders Team in Norwich; in which he dealt with many aspects of developments including site set up arrangements, drafting transfers and leases, infrastructure easements, highway and drainage agreements, planning and title enquiries, and post completion matters. His third seat was with the Banking and Finance Team, where he assisted the team in advising both lenders and borrowers on corporate lending and finance transactions. The first half of his final seat was spent with the Property Litigation Team, where he advised a range of clients on contentious issues in respect of both commercial and residential property.
Prior to joining Birketts, Michael graduated from the University of East Anglia with a BA Honours in History, before completing the Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies with a Commendation at UEA. After this Michael went on to achieve a Merit in the Masters of Law Legal Practice at BPP University in Cambridge, where his electives were Employment Law, Debt Finance, and Advanced Commercial Property. Here his research project focussed on the law around third-party sexual harassment in the workplace and how this could be amended.
