David Roberts is a real estate lawyer with extensive experience on dealing with living assets.
Living assets is a wide ranging and fast developing sector. The sector covers residential development, affordable housing, student living, build to rent (multi-family and single-family), later living, and co-living.
David leads cross disciplinary teams with colleagues in real estate tax, construction, commercial and corporate teams focussed on acquiring and disposing of living assets and all day to day issues that arise on running a portfolio of assets.
David regularly works with funders and investors looking to invest in this type of asset class. He acts for a broad range of clients ranging from developers, registered providers, operators, funders and investors. David’s experience includes working with overseas funders looking to invest in living assets in the UK. He has a real passion for this area of real estate.
Recent work highlights
Creation of First Build to Rent Fund
Advised on a landmark transaction to create the first private rental fund for 555 new build residential units spread across 12 sites in London.The Fund was run and managed and then sold to Prupim for a sum in excess of £105 million .This was the first significant investment by an investment fund in Build to Rent in the UK.
Client Lendlease Elephant Park London
Advising on the five phases of redevelopment of the former Heygate Estate in Vauxhall London. The scheme involved the demolition of the existing buildings de canting of some residents and the construction of 2800 new residential apartments and a commercial units.
Later Living
Advising a range of developers creating Integrated Retirement Communities on sites around the UK. The work included acquisition of the site and drafting precedent contracts and lease and explanatory documentation for unit disposals and managing a team dealing with unit disposals.
