Harriet is a Senior Associate in the employment team at Birketts LLP, based in the firm’s Chelmsford office.
She advises employers and employees on a broad range of employment law matters, providing clear, personable and practical guidance on both contentious and non-contentious issues.
Harriet works closely with employer clients to support day-to-day people management, deliver strategic advice on workplace issues, assist with the resolution of disputes and assist with Employment Tribunal litigation. Harriet regularly advises employers on issues such as disciplinary and grievance proceedings, sickness absence, changes to terms and conditions, discrimination, TUPE, redundancy and senior level exits under settlement agreements. Harriet also has experience in drafting and reviewing contracts of employment, consultancy agreements and staff handbooks.
Harriet assists individuals with employment tribunal claims and regularly advises in relation to onboarding senior executives (including negotiations), agreed exits under settlement agreements and the enforceability of restrictive covenants. Harriet is committed to providing a high quality, commercially focussed and efficient service to all of her clients.
Harriet has particular expertise in employment litigation and has assisted with a number of complex claims in the employment tribunals including, complex discrimination and whistleblowing claims and Employment Appeal Tribunal matters.
Recent work highlights
Successfully defending a complex religion/belief discrimination multi-Respondent Employment Tribunal claim with an estimated value of £1.8m.
Advising a large public sector employer in relation to a large-scale restructure and redundancies.
Negotiated a high value exit package under a settlement agreement for a senior executive in the technology industry.
