Jonny Shuster is an Associate in the employment team, advising employers on complex and often business‑critical employment law matters. His practice is focused almost exclusively on employer‑side employment law, combining significant Employment Tribunal expertise with strategic, commercially‑focused advisory support.
Jonny regularly runs Employment Tribunal claims from start to finish, acting for employers across the full range of claims including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, complex employment status issues and all types of wages claims. He has substantial experience managing multi‑day and legally complex Tribunal proceedings, including discrimination and whistleblowing claims, and is often instructed to lead matters where litigation risk, strategy and reputation are key considerations. He has extensive experience negotiating settlements via ACAS and settlement agreements, advising on early exits and resolution strategies both before a claim is issued and during Tribunal proceedings. He provides clear, tactical advice on the timing and suitability of alternative dispute resolution and has a strong record of resolving disputes at an early stage.
In addition to his work in England and Wales, Jonny has successfully run Employment Tribunal claims in Scotland and is experienced in navigating the procedural differences between the two jurisdictions.
Alongside his contentious practice, Jonny advises employers on the full spectrum of day‑to‑day employment and employee relations issues, including disciplinary and grievance matters, sickness absence and capability, family leave and flexible working. He has extensive experience drafting employment contracts, consultancy agreements and directors’ service agreements, and regularly advises on TUPE both as a stand‑alone issue and as part of multi‑million‑pound corporate transactions. He frequently provides employment law input into redundancy, restructuring and organisational change programmes, as well as supporting transactional teams on employment due diligence.
