Tristan Ward
Tristan Ward is a Partner in our agriculture team, based in Sevenoaks.
As a farmer’s son and partner in the family farming business in north-west Kent for 14 years Tristan brings practical agricultural experience to his 30 years as a qualified solicitor specialising in rural property law.
Tristan’s clients include estate owners and purchasers, agribusiness and farmers. He advises them on the sale and purchase of agricultural land, landlord and tenant matters, day to day management of rural estate land holdings and the real estate aspects of diversification, including biodiversity net gain and the sale of land for development.
In addition, Tristan is active in London’s high value residential property market acting for a number of HNW individuals and families.
Recent work highlights
Restructuring of ownership of country estate
Acting alongside trust and tax lawyers in advising trustees on the restructuring of freehold and leasehold interests in a significant country estate, including:
– valuation and sale of a lease of the whole estate, including consideration of the statutory regime governing the lease in conjunction with the valuers
– first registration of parts of the estate
– negotiation of a complex overage agreement taking into account the sale of all or part of the estate free of the tenancy agreement at the estate.
Purchase of fishing estate
Acting for trustees on the purchase of a fishing estate and associated day fishing business on a chalk stream of international importance including granting separate leases of the estate to a management company responsible for the separate fishing and farming businesses.
Grant of option for solar farm
Acting for trustees in the grant of an option for the grant of a lease of a solar farm and subsequent assistance in the planning and development process including variation of the option in connection with the landowner’s entering into an associated planning agreement.
