Careers leads working in Ipswich secondary schools are set to benefit from a corporate career session from top 50 law firm Birketts and the Wolsey 550 Project with a view to passing on tips to school pupils thinking about a career in law and other business sectors.
Taking place on 18 October, school career teachers will take part in a free CPD session to help their pupils with:
- Personal branding – how students connect with a target employer and stand apart from their competition
- Commercial awareness – how is working in the corporate sector different to working in other sectors?
- How to apply – preparing your students for work experience and securing jobs in the legal sector from an early careers perspective.
- The broad range of opportunities currently available in the legal sector.
Participants will also receive a digital pack of resources to help them put what they’ve learned into action at their respective schools.
Lizzy Ferguson, Early Careers Officer at Birketts, said: “As a law firm, we have a good insight into what employers in the legal and business sectors are looking for in who they employ. We hope that passing this knowledge and experience on to the next generation of potential lawyers and business leaders will benefit them in pursuing their careers and ambitions.”
Education and Opportunities Lead with Wolsey 550, Hannah Houghton: “This session is particularly suitable for Careers Leads in secondary and further education. The training will be applicable across a range of career sectors, not just law. We have designed content to be adaptable for any Key Stage (KS2+) or transition in a young person’s educational journey. We’re incredibly grateful to Birketts LLP for offering to run this unique event and I’m expecting it to be oversubscribed.”
Birketts have hosted two additional encounters with year 10 students from Ipswich Academy and year 9 students from Chantry High School. For both encounters, the students who signed up for the experience having expressed an interest in careers in law, visited Birketts’ Ipswich office to experience the workplace environment and gain an understanding of what a law career can look like.
