Charlotte was admitted as a Solicitor in 2015 and joined Birketts’ Bristol office in November 2025.

Charlotte has experience in dealing with a broad range of private client issues, including advising on UK estate planning and succession matters (particularly for farming and family business owning clients) including the preparation of wills, lasting powers of attorney, providing inheritance tax advice, trust creation and administration (including those governed by the Settled Land Act).

A significant part of Charlotte’s practice to date has involved looking after a number of UK families and landed estates, providing a holistic service which often involves other disciplines and necessitates liaison with their other advisors. She has often acted as the first port of call for the family and advisors to provide the client with a key point of contact.

Charlotte is a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP) having passed the diploma with distinction.

Recent work highlights

Acting for the trustees of a significant landed estate (held in various ownership structures and trusts) on a day-to-day basis, including advising the trustees on all aspects of their duties and next generation succession planning. In addition, working with trustees and family members to prepare a family constitution and ensure family members’ personal estate planning is in order.

Advising on succession and asset protection strategy and review (involving the use of trusts to structure the transition of wealth between generations as well as family investment corporations where applicable), Balfour review and the tax efficient of structures for a farming family. Working alongside other advisors as a joined-up team to provide the client with a holistic joined-up service to generate the optimum outcome.

Advising the owner of a business on BPR and considering planning options before a business sale in conjunction with their wider estate planning.
