Our Experience

Provision of liquid gas supply pipeline

Birketts has provided advice in relation to the provision of liquid gas supply pipeline between the port and a storage terminal. We have been involved from the inception of the scheme, initially providing advice in connection with the adaption of the terminal and then with planning for the pipeline including advice on EIA and consideration of whether DCO or a planning application should be used to obtain consent.

Negotiation of an option agreement and easement for cables

Birketts is representing clients in the negotiation of an option agreement and easement for cables crossing Norfolk from major windfarms. These clients are involved in a large-scale environmental project. Alongside negotiating the option agreements, easements, compound leases, and consents, Birketts is advising on how the windfarm cable route documentation might interact with the clients’ environmental projects, including the provision of Biodiversity Net Gain for sale on the market. Birketts is liaising with the clients, their land agents, and specialist valuers to navigate the negotiations with the windfarm companies, considering the specialist land use. The team has reviewed complex titles, prepared epitomes for unregistered land, and handled substantial due diligence enquiries related to the land affected by the windfarm cable route.

Design and construction of an anaerobic digestion renewable energy plant

This special purpose vehicle client is owned by a long-established anaerobic digestion developer and operator, who are one of the largest producers of biomethane in the UK. This project involves the design and construction of a new anaerobic digestion renewable energy plant. The project uses thermophilic fermentation and mixed energy crops as feedstock for the AD process and will produce biomethane for injection into the UK National Grid medium pressure gas network. The plant will also produce liquid CO2 for the food and beverage market and for sequestration to third-party projects. We are advising the client on the construction documentation for the project and have so far dealt with two of the main contracts. Both works packages have been procured using amended forms of contract.
