Euro 2024: proposed extension of licensing hours
9 May 2024
As a boost to the hospitality industry the Government is looking to extend pub licensing hours for Euro 2024 if England and/or Scotland reach the semi-finals on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 July and for the final on Sunday 14 July 2024.
It is anticipated that pub licensing hours will be extended to 1am which is a great opportunity for the licensed trade to maximise their potential and will allow friends, families, and communities to come together for longer to watch their nation play.
The extension is specifically for Euro 2024 and would relate to the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises only and the provision of late-night refreshment in on-trade licensed premises. It would not cover regulated entertainment.
Any national relaxation of licensing hours would not apply to the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises e.g. supermarkets and off-licences.
Unlicensed premises will not benefit from a relaxation in licencing hours and would need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) to undertake licensable activities. You must submit your TEN application at least 10 clear working days before the event (this does not include the day your council receives the application or the day of the event). If you require further information regarding this, please contact us.
With the semi-finals currently being scheduled to take place on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 July and with the final being on Sunday 14 July, now is the time to make sure your premises licensing is in order so that you don’t miss out.
The team are on hand to discuss any licensing question or concern regarding your licensing requirements. Please contact Karen Lolotte or Julie Gowland.
