30 April 2024
Birketts is pleased to announce that Kath Herbert, Partner and lead of the Commercial Real Estate Team in Cambridge, has been presented with the Cambridgeshire Law Society Lifetime Achievement Award. Kath won the prestigious award at the 2024 Cambridgeshire Law Society Legal Excellence Awards Ceremony.
Over her 40-year legal career Kath has built an excellent reputation in the Cambridgeshire market and beyond. Joining Birketts in 2010, Kath was the key driver in building Birketts’ Cambridge-based Commercial Real Estate Team which today has over 40 team members. Beyond this, Kath’s vision has influenced the shape and calibre of the firm-wide Real Estate Division, now boasting over 250 lawyers. Kath also heads Birketts’ Strategic Land Group.
While pursuing her career, Kath has also dedicated herself to the community. She was chair of YSG for a year, including a seat on the committee of what was previously the Cambridge Law Society. As Chair of the Strategic Health Authority Continuing Care Panel for three years, Kath dealt with the review of restitution (post several hospital closures) and ongoing care cases at monthly tribunals. She was also a Trustee of the Cambridge Centre for Sixth Form Studies, helping steer the college to merge successfully with the Stephen Perse Foundation.
Supporting the entry, colleague and fellow Birketts Partner Gemma Goddard said: “Kath’s encyclopaedic knowledge, commitment to excellence and intense passion for delivering across all facets of her career, are second to none. She is a true inspiration to her colleagues across the firm and to all of those who she meets outside of it.”
Kath added: “I feel extremely honoured and proud to have received this recognition from the Cambridgeshire Law Society. Throughout my career I have had the privilege of working with and meeting many talented and passionate individuals, and I would like to thank all of those people for their continued support and inspiration.”
