Birketts supports launch of Home Kitchen with pro bono legal advice
8 July 2024
Birketts’ Commercial Real Estate Team has supported the launch of the world’s first fine dining restaurant to be staffed by homeless people with pro bono legal advice.
Home Kitchen will open in Primrose Hill at 130 Regent’s Park Road – on the site of legendary eatery, Odette’s. The not-for-profit enterprise will employ those who are designated homeless: people with mixed life experiences including sofa surfing, living in hostels, unstable or temporary accommodation and rough sleeping.
Acclaimed chef Adam Simmonds – who has won a Michelin star at two other restaurants and 11 AA rosettes – will lead the kitchen, designing a seven-course fixed tasting menu to create an unrivalled culinary experience.
Birketts’ Commercial Real Estate Team provided pro bono legal support to enable the not-for-profit enterprise to secure the premises for the fine dining restaurant.
On his role in the launch of Home Kitchen, Matthew White, Partner at Birketts, said: “It has been a pleasure to advise Home Kitchen on its property deal in London. Offering our support pro bono will enable the not-for-profit enterprise to give a marginalised group the chance to reshape their lives and create a new route of employment into the catering industry.”
Michael Brown, Chair and co-founder of Home Kitchen, said: “Home Kitchen will be an accelerant out of poverty for our recruits and an incubator of untapped talent for the catering industry. We have chosen fine dining as the vehicle for our social impact because if you can change perceptions in this world, then you can do it in any other walk of life. Our thanks goes to Matthew and the Birketts team for their invaluable support in getting the launch of our first restaurant off the ground.” For more information on Home Kitchen, visit: https://homekitchenlondon.org/
