Non-profit community theatre to take place at Sutton Hoo after two years absence
Birketts is proud to announce its sponsorship of this year’s Theatre in the Forest show, Macbeth.
Run by non-profit community theatre company Red Rose Chain, and returning after two years absence, Suffolk’s biggest and most-loved outdoor summer theatre event, Theatre in the Forest, will take place at Sutton Hoo between 27 July and 20 August. This year they are promising an epic production of Macbeth with a hugely talented ensemble of actors, incredible music and spellbinding puppetry by Olivier Award winning Nick Barnes Puppets (Life of Pi).
For over 20 years Red Rose Chain has put inclusion and accessibility at the centre of their work, providing a much needed refuge and giving a voice to the marginalised through high quality arts activities and volunteering opportunities alongside a professional programme of productions throughout the year topped by the well-known, Theatre in the Forest.
Birketts’ sponsorship of Macbeth is facilitating the creation of two tiered seating banks, which, for the first time, will allow theatre-goers to book allocated seating for each performance. The seating banks will create an amphitheatre atmosphere, offering audience members a variety of viewpoints of the stage, with added side-tables for picnics.
Jonathan Agar, CEO at Birketts, said: “We are delighted that Birketts is sponsoring Red Rose Chain’s Theatre in the Forest this year. Having been absent from the Suffolk calendar for two years, it is only right that it comes back bigger and better than ever, and we’re thrilled to help make this a reality. I am looking forward to taking a group of friends to see the show next week.”
Jo Carrick, Artistic Director, Red Rose Chain, said: “We are so excited that Birketts are sponsoring us this year and so grateful for their support. Theatre in the Forest is such a vital fundraising activity for us and while recovering from the pandemic the support of Birketts is even more important to us as it helps towards the continued funding of our community programmes. Thank you so much Birketts. Can’t wait for you to see the show!”
