Kevin is a member of both the Ecclesiastical Team and the Corporate Team at Birketts and is based in our London office.
Kevin is a Deputy Registrar for the Dioceses of London and Norwich supporting the Registrar, Stuart Jones. He also assists James Hall, the Registrar for the Diocese of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich. In this capacity he serves Church of England parishes in the dioceses, advising on a range of ecclesiastical legal issues from property matters, through safeguarding and disciplinary problems, together with a broad range of issues relating to the management of parochial church councils (which are charitable bodies).
He completed a Master’s degree (LLM) in Canon Law at Cardiff University in 2022. His academic studies focussed on the practical aspects of the law governing the Church of England. Having completed the LLM course, Kevin has been asked to return to Cardiff University to speak to the ongoing cohort of students on topics of interest, such as the law relating to Holy Communion and the role of a Diocesan Registrar.
Kevin is a member of the Ecclesiastical Law Society, the Ecclesiastical Law Association and is a school governor.
Prior to his interest in Ecclesiastical law, Kevin spent more than 20 years advising on corporate law matters including mergers & acquisitions, reorganisations, management buy-outs, shareholder arrangements and other corporate advisory work.
After training and then working for a magic circle firm, Kevin worked in-house for over 10 years as the General Counsel/Chief Counsel of several businesses. During this time, he gained a thorough understanding of the broad range of work that in-house legal departments undertake. Kevin managed teams of lawyers across the world who serviced global organisations.
His transactional experience has covered various sectors, including, retail, financial services, technology and IT, leisure and hospitality, travel and manufacturing.
Kevin qualified as a Solicitor in October 1999.
Outside of work, Kevin is a school Governor. He is a member of the Learning & Standards Committee, chairs the IT Committee and is the Governor responsible for policies.
