Birketts, a top 100 law firm, has advised Notcutts on the successful acquisition of the Frosts garden centre in Brampton, Cambridgeshire.
Celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, the acquisition means Notcutts now has 19 garden centres in its group across the UK.
Founded in 1897 by Roger Crompton Notcutt, the Suffolk-based garden centre is family owned with Roger’s great-granddaughter, Caroline Notcutt, Vice Chairman. One of the first purpose-built garden centres in the UK, the business has gone from strength to strength over the years, acquiring numerous centres and growing its offering to include furniture, homewares, restaurants and a substantial e-commerce business.
Frosts, founded in 1946 by Vera Frost, has grown from similar family origins to Notcutts with members of the Frost family still involved in the business today, advocating a strong sense of customer service and offering a broad range of products.
The acquisition was led by Corporate Partner Alexandra Nelson along with Legal Director Kevin Wilson (Corporate) and assisted by Sonya O’Reilly (Employment), Samantha Cass (Employment), Adam Auger (Property), Karl Pocock (Tax), Andrew Tubb (Corporate Finance), Kye Strowbridge (Corporate Finance).
Commenting on the deal, Kevin Wilson said: “We are proud of our longstanding relationship with Notcutts, having worked on a number of deals with them to date. It was a great pleasure to advise the team on another successful transaction which we have no doubt will be a huge success for both Notcutts and the team at Brampton.”
Julian Herbert, Notcutts CFO commented: “The acquisition of Brampton garden centre marks an exciting stage of Notcutts growth in its 125th anniversary. The team at Birketts have provided support and advice throughout the process.”
