Jean Herring
Jean Herring worked for a top tier law firm and regional firm prior to joining Birketts LLP and is a Chartered Legal Executive with more than 25 years’ experience working within commercial real estate and residential development.
Jean has worked for a wide range of clients, both government bodies, businesses and individuals, including registered social housing providers and some of the UK’s largest housebuilders together with regional and bespoke developers and builders specialising in residential development work.
Jean deals with land acquisitions including overage and option agreements and acquisitions conditional on grant of planning permission.
Jean acts for developers and registered social housing providers in relation to section 106 affordable housing sales and purchases on both a turnkey agreement and development agreement basis.
In addition, Jean deals with drafting of site set up/site assembly documentation for both freehold and leasehold developments and self-build/custom build developments and discount market dwellings for both developers and registered social housing providers. This includes providing advice and guidance on the options available to structure the future management of common areas and open space on new build developments, whether via informal arrangements or via a management company structure as well as dealing with infrastructure agreements including highway and drainage agreements, and transfers of open space and utility sites.

Acting for a developer in the purchase of development land with planning permission for residential dwellings including provisions for offsite easements for foul drainage and other services and finding solutions to overcome title defects.
Acting for a local authority development company in connection with the new build site set up/site assembly documentation for its redevelopment of land in Cambridgeshire area comprising both open market freehold and leasehold dwellings and affordable housing, open space and other managed areas.
Acting for a developer in connection with site setup/site assembly documentation for its self-build development in Cambridgeshire comprising the self-build plots and joint common areas.
