Marcia Grice

Marcia joined Birketts in 2017 and is a Rights of Way Executive specialising in Public Rights of Way and Access to Land, and Highways, in the Planning and Environmental Team. She has over 10 years’ experience in rights of way and access. 

Before joining Birketts Marcia worked for a local authority dealing with a variety of work relating to Public Rights of Way, Highways, Common Land and Town and Village Greens. This experience has enabled Marcia to assist clients on a wide range of enquiries relating to public access, coastal access, public rights of way and highways. Marcia also advises and assists landowners with making landowner deposit applications to protect their land against public right of way and town and village green claims and provides permissive access licence agreements when required.

Marcia advises clients on matters relating to public right of way and highways which includes archive research, interpretation and advice relating to historic maps and documentation. Marcia is also experienced in assisting clients with making applications to secure changes to the public right of way network including applications to stop up or extinguish highways which are affected by development.

Common Land and Town and Village Green legislation and applications is another area of work Marcia covers including applications for consent for works, and to deregister buildings and land wrongly registered as common land or as a town or village green.

Recent work highlights

Supporting the Public Access Team at Birketts with historic documentary and map evidence archive record research, preparing objections and documentation for public inquiries.

Successfully supported Clients and Local Authorities with the completion of public right of way diversion and extinguishment applications.

Supported developers with applications for stopping up of areas of highway which are no longer required for highway use.
