Matthew qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and joined the firm in 2001. His practice covers all aspects of insolvency law (both personal and corporate) as well as commercial dispute resolution.
Matthew’s insolvency practice has a particular focus on the purchase and sale of businesses from financially distressed companies. Matthew has extensive recent experience of acting for both purchasers and administrators on these transactions.
Matthew’s dispute resolution practice encompasses proceedings in the high court and country court as well as arbitration and expert determination. He has experience of obtaining freezing orders and other injunctive relief from the courts.
Matthew is a keen advocate of alternative dispute resolution, in particular mediation.
Recent work highlights
Acting for a trade buyer, Matthew advised on the purchase of bathroom supplies business out of administration. The acquisition preserved the jobs of 20 employees and enabled our client to establish a manufacturing base in the midlands.
Acting for administrators, Matthew has acted on the sale of various businesses including an accountancy practice, a private hospital, a provider of serviced apartments and an earth imaging company.
Matthew has recently obtained a vesting order from the court on behalf of a former bankrupt, following an historic disclaimer of a freehold property by the trustee in bankruptcy.
Acting on behalf of a trade creditor in the tiling sector, Matthew has recently advised on a successful retention of title claim which substantially mitigated the consequences of the customer’s insolvency.
