Owen Riches is a Paralegal in our property disputes team, focusing on private residential housing, and is based in our Ipswich Office.
He assists with advising parties in respect of residential housing disputes as well as dealing with the non-contentious aspects of occupational agreements such as drafting and advising on agreements and obligations.
Owen previously worked within our social housing team where he provided general advice to clients on repairing covenants and other obligations; supported organisations with ASB and access injunctions; assisted in the running of possession or forfeiture claims; and defended numerous disrepair claims.
Owen completed a law degree with The Open University in 2026, being awarded Upper Second-class Honours. In 2017, Owen founded and ran a nationally recognised parliamentary campaign which successfully changed legislation within the world of sports law. He also has previous experience as a caseworker/campaign organiser for a Member of Parliament.
Recent work highlights
- Following repeated instances of a problematic tenant refusing access to a property, Owen assisted a landlord in successfully obtaining an access injunction, with provision for forced access should access be refused, and an order for costs.
- Upon a landlord receiving a letter of claim for alleged housing disrepair and the Claimant not providing the relevant disclosure to evidence their allegations, Owen assisted the landlord with an application for pre-action disclosure. The application was subsequently settled prior to any hearing with the Claimant paying the landlord’s costs, and the disrepair claim was later dropped.
- Upon a landlord being targeted with multiple letters of claim for alleged housing disrepair from the same firm of solicitors, Owen has assisted the landlord defend allegations of housing disrepair at the pre-action stage resulting in the Claimant solicitors closing numerous files.
