William Sell

William Sell, or Billy as he is better known, joined Birketts in September 2022 as a Trainee Solicitor and qualified into the commercial and technology team in September 2024.

Based in our Cambridge office, Billy advises on a wide range of commercial matters, including terms and conditions for the supply of goods and services, framework and master services agreements, non-disclosure agreements and marketing agreements, as well as intellectual property and licensing arrangements. He also works on the commercial, intellectual property, IT and data protection aspects of due diligence exercises for M&A transactions, and assists with early-stage funding rounds and investment documentation.

Billy is also part of our AI team, contributing to matters relating to the legal and practical implications of emerging AI technologies for clients across a range of sectors.

During his training contract, Billy also gained experience in the banking and finance, construction and engineering and international private client teams.

Recent work highlights

Due diligence for M&A transactions

Billy conducted commercial, intellectual property and data protection due diligence in connection with several large mergers and acquisitions. This included reviewing key customer and supplier contracts, and contributing to clear, risk-focussed reporting for corporate colleagues and clients.

Influencer agreement

Billy prepared an influencer agreement for an international agricultural business to support a promotional campaign, ensuring robust protections were in place around content ownership, usage rights and brand reputation.

Intellectual property

Billyeviewed and drafted amendments to various intellectual property provisions for a leading online travel platform, helping to finalise a key contract within a short timeframe.
