Corinne Smith

Corinne joined Birketts in January 2018 and is a Solicitor in our Commercial Real Estate Team in Cambridge.
Corinne qualified as a Solicitor in 2017, having trained at a firm in the City. Prior to qualification Corinne worked as a Paralegal at a national firm based in Cambridge and at a niche property firm in the West End.
Corinne has a broad range of experience across all aspects of commercial real estate, with a focus on strategic land and the housebuilding sector, including acting for banks funding development sites.
Corinne has particular experience in:
- site acquisitions for housebuilders including unconditional purchases of sites already benefitting from planning consent and purchases conditional on obtaining planning, both pursuant to option agreements and conditional contracts;
- advising housebuilders on overage agreements and the subsequent discharge of overage on development sites;
- advising both banks and borrowers on secured lending transactions, with a particular focus on development finance;
- assisting land promoters with due diligence in relation to strategic land development.
Corinne also has experience acting for both landlords and tenants in relation to lease transactions and acting for both banks and borrowers in relation to portfolio refinancing.
Outside of work, Corinne enjoys reading, international travel and spending time with her two French Bulldogs. During her time as student, Corinne volunteered at several charities including the Citizens Advice Bureau in Cambridge and the Alzheimer’s Society in Tower Hill, where she had an active role in the success of a pilot scheme offering digital assistance to people suffering with dementia in relation to drafting and completing Lasting Powers of Attorney.
In 2020 Corinne was nominated for ‘Junior Lawyer of the Year’ at the Cambridge and District Law Society Excellence Awards.
