Emily joined Birketts in August 2018 as an Associate in our Commercial Property Team.
Emily attended the University of Nottingham and studied Law graduating with a LLB (Hons) Law Degree in 2013. She then went on to achieve a distinction in her LPC qualification at BPP Holborn, London. Emily completed her training contract with a local Norfolk based law firm undertaking seats in commercial property, litigation, family and residential property and qualified as a Solicitor in April 2018 into the commercial property department. Emily also gained a number of years’ experience in the property department, prior to completing her training contract, with involvement in agricultural, residential and commercial property matters.
Emily is able to assist with a full range of commercial property advice, to both businesses and private individuals, including landlord and tenant, asset management, property acquisitions, development and property finance. Emily also advises public sector clients in connection with commercial property matters.
Since joining Birketts, Emily has gained extensive experience in the real estate finance sector and has primarily acted within a specialist team for a nationwide challenger bank in connection with their security over commercial and buy-to-let premises. Emily is able to assist with the preparation and negotiation of loan and security documentation and review of the property due diligence, together with all aspects of post completion.
Emily specialises in landlord and tenant work and can advise in connection with leases, licences for alterations and consent, surrenders, assignments and sub-lettings. She also has knowledge of more niche areas of landlord and tenant work such as leases of mooring sites and quays. Emily recognises the key commercial concerns for businesses, takes a pragmatic approach, and tries to consider practical solutions to any points that arise during the transaction. Emily’s clients can range from nationwide high street retailers to small businesses taking on their first commercial premises and will tailor the approach to the matter depending on the specific client and their individual needs.
Emily also provides property assistance to our Corporate teams and has a particular interest in the Care Home sector. Emily has been involved in a number of care home business sales, supporting the Corporate Team with the property aspects. In connection with a recent care home sale, the client noted the team’s ‘professionalism, competence and sheer hard work’ and congratulated them on a ‘truly outstanding performance’.
Emily is based in our Norwich office.
Emily is on maternity leave.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys regular hiking trips to the Lake District with her family and recently took part in the Cumbrian Challenge charity event, climbing and walking 29km over the Lake District peaks, in support of the Walking with the Wounded charity.
