Private Client Associate appointment boosts team offering
6 May 2020
Birketts has appointed Tobias Gleed-Owen as an Associate in its highly-regarded Private Client Advisory Team based at its Cambridge office.
Birketts is recognised as one of the leading firms in the region for providing advice on a comprehensive range of issues and the addition of Tobias to the Private Client Advisory Team will enhance the firm’s reputation in the private client field.
Tobias has extensive experience in a wide variety of private client related issues, including, in particular, administering cross-border estates, tax & estate planning for international individuals and dealing with the complexities of succession issues for family businesses.
Tobias’ appointment closely follows the appointment of Matthew Porter, who joined the team in January 2020. Caroline Stenner leads the growing Cambridge team, which now consists of nine solicitors and a Tax and Trusts Manager. Each individual brings their own skills and experience and the team is well equipped to provide an excellent service to private clients in Cambridge and across the region.
Despite the current challenges we are facing as a result of the pandemic, the team continues to provide a full service to their clients, utilising the impressive range of IT resources and equipment in which the firm has invested over the years. Understandably, the focus for many people over the last few weeks has been on updating their Wills and putting lasting powers of attorney in place, however, some people are taking the opportunity to explore tax planning options, including lifetime gifts and re-structuring assets/businesses.
The team members have successfully adapted to holding virtual ‘face to face’ meetings with clients and they continue to use the telephone, where appropriate. Naturally, more of our work is being carried out electronically but the team members are still sending out and receiving correspondence and documents via the post and we are very much open for business. Some aspects, including witnessing documents, remain a challenge but we have been able to guide clients through the processes to ensure that documents are dealt with appropriately.
Commenting on his appointment, Tobias said: “I am delighted to join a team with such an impressive reputation for practical, reliable advice and high quality service. I look forward to applying my experience to an array of fresh challenges and building a rapport with a new cohort of clients.”
Caroline Stenner, Partner, said of the appointment: “We are pleased to announce Tobias’ appointment to our highly skilled team. As one of the biggest Private Client Advisory teams in the region, we are confident that Tobias’ international experience will make him a valuable addition to the team.”
