Simon joined the Agriculture and Estates Team as an Associate Solicitor in December 2020 from a regional firm in Essex where he had been based for just under six years. Prior to that he trained at an international firm in Cambridge between 2009 and 2011, and stayed with that firm after qualification. He is based in the Chelmsford office but assists Cambridge, Ipswich, London and Norwich as required.

Simon has previously undertaken all branches of property work, namely agricultural, commercial and residential for private individuals (including as trustees), companies, partnerships (including Limited Liability Partnerships) and not-for-profit organisations. He has particular experience (on both sides) of conditional and unconditional sales and purchases, transfers of ownership, leases and licences (including fishing and renewable energy leases), secured lending / re-financing and first registrations (including on the basis of adverse possession and lost title deeds). Additionally Simon has experience of land swaps, promotion agreements, option agreements, overage provisions (including equalisation measures) and easements for the grant of rights of way, service media and drainage rights.

He routinely works with colleagues from other teams (specifically Private Client Advisory, Planning and Environmental and Commercial Property) as well as external intermediaries such as banking relationship managers, accountants / tax advisors, surveyors and land agents.

Simon studied law at the University of East Anglia in Norwich at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. That was followed by the Legal Practice Course at De Montfort University in Leicester. He qualified as a Solicitor in September 2011.

Simon is a member of the Agricultural Law Association, and a Legal 500 ranked lawyer.

Outside of work Simon enjoys cooking and baking, skiing and playing golf (particularly when the score isn’t kept).
