Angie has been at Birketts since 1970. 

She worked in litigation for five years before becoming secretary to the senior partner.  He was also the diocesan registrar and legal secretary to the bishop of the diocese of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich. Angie became the diocesan registry clerk in 1975 and now works with James Hall in the ecclesiastical team. 

Angie deals with general enquiries from clergy and members of the public in relation to marriage, baptism, burial, etc. as well as:

  • Preparing notices, licences, permissions, instruments and all other documents relating to the appointment of clergy and lay office holders.
  • Preparing documents required for the consecration of churches, churchyards and cemeteries.
  • Maintaining records relating to churches, clergy, etc.
  • The granting of faculties to authorise changes or additions to consecrated buildings and burial grounds.
  • Issuing of Common Licences on behalf of the Bishop of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich to authorise marriages in parish churches and in other buildings licensed for the solemnisation of marriages according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England.
  • Maintaining a register of patrons of the diocese and ensuring that the provisions of the Patronage (Benefices) Measure 1986 are complied with in relation to the filling of vacant benefices.

Angie is based at our Ipswich office.

Angie has probably met most of the problems that can arise in a diocesan registry, but always welcome new ones. She loves working with all sorts of people across the diocese.
