Jonathan Shevlane

Jonathan qualified as a Solicitor in 2018 and joined Birketts in 2022. He is an Employment Law Trainer in the Employment Team and provides a range of Employment Law training to Birketts’ clients through the Shaping Excellence training division. 

Jonathan has over six years’ experience an Employment Lawyer, before joining Birketts he trained and spent his first few years as a lawyer at a global, multinational law practice before working for a union side law firm. Jonathan has advised and represented clients from a range of sectors including: education, transport, technology and finance. He has also worked representing individuals in disputes with their employer. Jonathan has particular experience in bringing and defending discrimination claims. 

Since joining Birketts Jonathan has helped build the Shaping Excellence Training business led by Sam Greenhalgh. Jonathan has particular expertise in discrimination law and has delivered large scale employee training projects on different aspects of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for firms in the transportation, social housing, construction and defence sectors. Jonathan also leads the firms’ delivery of its long running Employment Law Essentials for HR Professionals Course. Jonathan also trains senior leaders, senior managers and line managers on key aspects of employment law including: recruitment, performance management, managing investigations and disciplinaries, managing absence and understanding reasonable adjustments.

Jonathan has been key to delivering exceptional training events including Mock Tribunals in Newmarket and London in 2024 (in collaboration with 3PB Barristers).
