Karen Luxton-Walsh specialises in planning law and predominantly advises local authorities on complex planning matters, including strategic land sites, regeneration projects and data centres.
Karen is recognised for her expertise in drafting complex bespoke planning obligations and translating intricate planning requirements into clear, robust agreements. She also advises on highways matters, planning enforcement and certificates of lawfulness.
Karen works closely with council officers and members, supporting them through attendance at planning committees and officer meetings and the delivery of training. She has been described as “approachable, knowledgeable and helpful”.
In addition, Karen provides planning due diligence to Birketts’ corporate team in relation to large-scale acquisitions, and has assisted on securing planning obligations on an international airport.

Karen studied environmental engineering in New Zealand and read law through the University of London International Programmes; before completing the Legal Practice Course at De Montfort with distinction.
