Susan Mitchell
Susan is a Legal Director in the Banking and Finance Team.
Susan originally qualified in Scotland in 1999, before qualifying as a Solicitor in England and Wales and moving to a ‘Magic Circle’ global law firm in London in 2002, where she worked predominantly on leveraged finance, private equity finance and general corporate lending transactions and undertook two secondments to major European banks. In 2014, Susan moved to a London-based international law firm to work on a wider range of finance transactions, acting on general corporate lending, acquisition finance, real estate finance, art finance and receivables finance transactions.
Susan is experienced in acting for both lenders (including banks, debt funds and high net worth investors) and borrowers (including corporates and funds, as well as individuals and family offices), and in advising on a wide range of finance transactions, including:
- general corporate lending
- acquisition finance
- real estate finance – investment and development, across a range of asset classes, including residential development, student accommodation, hotels and retirement living / care homes
- art finance – utilising both possessory and in-residence collateral structures
- receivables finance
Susan has a broad range of commercial experience and an understanding of the issues that are important to clients. She combines strong technical expertise with the ability to make complex issues understandable.
Susan joined Birketts in September 2023 and is based in our London office.
