Emma is a Senior Associate in our Construction and Engineering Team. She qualified as a Solicitor in October 2011 and joined Birketts in November 2016. Emma deals with a range of both contentious and non-contentious construction matters, acting for individuals and corporate entities.

Emma’s contentious experience includes the recovery of stage/interim payments, final payments and valuation disputes, retention monies, extensions of time, loss and expense, variations and defects, and professional negligence claims. Emma has particular experience of settling disputes by litigation, pre-action protocol compliance and alternative dispute resolution such as adjudication and mediation. Emma is also well versed in enforcing adjudication decisions in the Technology and Construction Court.

Emma also advises on non-contentious construction matters including drafting, reviewing and negotiating industry standard form and bespoke contracts, appointments, novations and warranties for employers, contractors and sub-contractors. Emma also regularly provides webinars and training sessions to clients on topics such as amendments to standard form contracts, case law updates and mechanisms for payment.  

Emma is a member of the Society of Construction Law and is fluent in French. Emma graduated from the Université Montesquieu in Bordeaux, France, where she gained a ‘Certificat’ in French law. Emma subsequently graduated from the University of Warwick where she gained a degree in European Law with French Law, and thereafter completed her Legal Practice Course with Nottingham Law School.

Outside of work, Emma enjoys spending as much time as possible with her young family. When time allows, her other interests include theatre, pilates, adventures to France, Italy and Spain, and home gastronomy.
