Ivana Radovic

Legal Director
  • Experience

Ivana joined Birketts in April 2019 as a Legal Director in our Family Team.

Prior to joining Birketts Ivana worked for the last 15 years at a Suffolk Law firm, as a Partner and a Family Law Solicitor.

Ivana advises and assists clients with all matters that can arise from the breakdown of their personal relationships. This includes advising clients by negotiations, court applications, through mediation or meetings with the other solicitor acting.

Ivana handles matters including;

Having qualified as a Solicitor in March 2001, Ivana specialises in family/matrimonial matters. She has taken particular interest in advising clients with complex financial settlements. These matters involve not only providing legal advice to the clients, but also ensuring that the best support is obtained for the clients by including the involvement of experts such as accountants, tax advisers and pension experts and Barristers.

Ivana advises extensively on arrangements and issues relating to children. Matters include disputes between parents as to times a child should spend with each parent, applications to determine which parent a child should live with, applications on behalf of grandparents and applications for a parent to relocate outside of the UK with their child/ren.

Ivana recognises that any relationship breakdown can be extremely difficult and her advice is tailored to each client’s individual needs. She discusses all options with her clients so that a tailored approach is offered to each individual. Ivana has a keen interest in exploring different ways of resolving issues and disputes, and reducing conflict, by engaging clients in the mediation or referring them to mediation services. She recognises that communications between parties can be the key issue which if managed sensitively can unlock disputes and allow the parties to move forward positively.

Ivana is a Trained Mediator, and has assisted many clients to resolve their differences without making a formal contested application to Court. This has meant that the clients have been able to continue to communicate with one another, have reached an agreement and in the process have saved legal costs.

Mediation can be used to resolve issues relating to arrangements for children, such as who they have their main home with, what time they should be spending with both parents and any other issues that need to be discussed and agreed. In addition, mediation can be used from the very early stages of a relationship or marriage breakdown, including discussing the practical issues about separating and how the couple will tell the children and deal with practical interim issues. Mediation is also a forum where it is possible to discuss whether the couple are ready to proceed with divorce proceedings, who will issue the proceedings, what grounds will be used and so forth. Finally, people can sort out financial and property matters within mediation, where the parties will have the ultimate control as to what the financial settlement will look like, by reaching an agreement between themselves, rather than a Judge making a decision and parties incurring significant legal costs and many months through the Court process.

Ivana is based in our Ipswich office but is able to meet clients at any office.

Ivana is recommended and named as a ‘Leading Individual’ by Legal 500 [UK 2022]. In this edition clients say “Ivana Radovic can be a fearsome opponent who fights her client’s corner with impressive skill and knowledge. She also mediates and works collaboratively so is able to suit her approach to the circumstances. I’d be more than happy to have her acting for me if the circumstances arose.” Another adds “Ivana Radovic has excellent attention to detail. She goes the extra mile in analysing financial disclosure in a divorce to make sure that nothing goes unnoticed.”
