Nicholas West

Nicholas joined Birketts in February 2018. He is a Senior Associate in the Employment Team.
Nicholas has exclusively specialised in employment law since he qualified in September 2016. Nicholas is based in our Chelmsford office and advises both employers and employees on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment issues.
Nicholas regularly advises employers on day to day issues such as disciplinary and grievance proceedings, discrimination, redundancy and senior level exits under settlement agreements. Nicholas has particular expertise in employment litigation and has assisted with a number of complex claims in the employment tribunals including group claims, complex discrimination claims and Employment Appeal Tribunal matters. Nicholas also has experience in drafting and reviewing contracts of employment, consultancy agreements and staff handbooks.
Nicholas assists individuals with employment tribunal claims and regularly advises on agreed exits under settlement agreements. Nicholas is committed to providing a high quality service to all of his clients and understands the sensitive and challenging nature of employment law situations.
Nicholas is a member of Birketts’ Shaping Excellence Team delivering training in-house to clients and also regularly speaks at Birketts’ breakfast seminars, annual updates and contributes to local HR networking clubs in and around Essex.
Prior to joining Birketts, Nicholas studied at the University of Bristol and qualified as a solicitor at a London based law firm into their employment team. Nicholas previously lived and worked in Western Australia and he continues to enjoy travelling with his young family.
