Thomas Utting

Tom joined Birketts in November 2018 and is an Associate in our Corporate Team. Tom is based in our Chelmsford office.
Tom specialises in corporate transactional work and has experience advising on both share and asset acquisitions and disposals as well as management buy-outs, re-organisations and joint ventures. Part of his role involves liaising with colleagues across a number of other practice areas including the property, employment and tax teams.
He also advises on general corporate matters such as allotments of shares, share buybacks and share capital reductions in addition to advising on shareholders’ agreements and other corporate governance matters.
Some M&A transactions on which Tom has advised include the following:
- APP Wholesale – acting for the owners on its sale to Lord’s Trading Group.
- Motocaddy Holdings – advising the management team on their sale to Ethos Partners and their ongoing investment holding.
- Commcise Software – acting for the owners on the sale to Euronext NV and advising on their ongoing equity stake.
Tom qualified as a Solicitor in July 2018.
Prior to joining Birketts, Tom attended the University of Essex where he was awarded a first class law degree. He went on to study the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law where his electives included intellectual property law, international competition law and mergers and acquisitions.
