UK Top 50 law firm, Birketts, has advised Indian conglomerate Kineco Group on its acquisition of TRB Lightweight Structures, a UK-based manufacturer of lightweight components for the rail sector.
TRB, headquartered in Huntingdon, UK, has more than 70 years of experience supplying rolling stock manufacturers across Europe and Asia. The acquisition marks Kineco’s second international deal in under a year, following its purchase of Danish firm Semvac AS in December 2024.
The Birketts team was led by Greg Allan (Partner, Corporate), supported by Corinne Spencer (Senior Associate, Corporate), Anvita Oswal (Advocate, Registered Foreign Lawyer), Leanna Romano (Paralegal), Lydia Hutchinson (Senior Associate, Corporate Tax), Robbie Watson (Senior Associate, Corporate Tax), Ryan Smith (Solicitor, Corporate Tax), and Stacy Aspden (Legal Director, Commercial Real Estate). Birketts provided comprehensive UK law advisory across corporate, employment, tax and property matters, working closely with Kineco’s principal legal advisors (DB Legal Consultants, led by its Partner Sourav De Biswas) and stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful outcome.
Greg Allan commented: “We are delighted to have supported Kineco Group on this landmark transaction. TRB’s legacy and technical expertise make it a strategic fit for Kineco’s global ambitions, and we’re proud to have played a role in bringing the deal to fruition.”
Shekhar Sardessai, Chairman and MD of Kineco Group, said: “We highly appreciate the extensive legal assistance provided by the Birketts team and DB Legal and their deep understanding of cross-border transactions. Their collaborative approach was instrumental in helping us navigate this complex acquisition.”
Under the agreement, TRB will continue to operate under its brand name and maintain its UK manufacturing base, while benefiting from Kineco’s engineering and manufacturing infrastructure in Goa.
