Claire joined Birketts in August 2016 and is an Associate in our Corporate Team in Chelmsford. Claire specialises in Commercial Contract Law and qualified as a Solicitor in September 2014.
Claire predominantly assists clients in relation to preparing and negotiating a wide range of bespoke commercial contracts. Claire also helps clients to understand their contracts, by carrying out whole contract reviews, or reviews of specific clauses or themes. This can be really beneficial for deciphering legal jargon and identifying issues that may not be visible to a non-legal eye. Furthermore, it can help a client to consider any issues or risks with an arrangement, so they can then make a more informed decision about next steps.
The types of contracts Claire works on vary, but include UK and international distribution agreements, manufacturing agreements, sale and purchase of goods and services agreements, transitional services agreements, storage agreements, and terms and conditions of sale and purchase (both business to business and/or business to consumer). Claire also regularly advises on agreements and arrangements for the protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights, including software development and licence agreements, software as a service agreements and confidentiality agreements.
As well as dealing with commercial contracts, Claire is a member of the Data Protection Team and provides advice relating to data protection provisions (such as data processing and data sharing) in contracts and stand-alone agreements, as well as in relation to privacy notices and policies.
Currently, Claire's working hours are Monday and Tuesday 9:00am - 5:00pm, Thursday 9:30am - 4:30pm and Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm.
