Ian is a Solicitor in the Property Litigation Team in our Chelmsford office. Ian joined Birketts as a Trainee in September 2020 and qualified into the Property Litigation Team in March 2022.

Ian can advise on a wide range of contentious issues for both private individuals and commercial clients including lease renewals, forfeiture, repossessions, break clauses, breach of covenant, applications for consent, boundary disputes, and more general commercial and residential property disputes.

Ian spent his first six-month seat of his training at Birketts gaining experience in our Commercial Property Team, where he assisted with a range of services for housebuilders, developers and investors, including commercial property acquisitions and disposals, secured lending and leases. Ian then spent his second seat gaining experience with the Property Litigation Team, where he assisted with a broad range of disputes between commercial landlords and tenants, attended to residential and commercial possession cases and freehold land issues. Ian spent his final seat with the Public Sector Team, where he worked on public procurement, including subsidy control analysis, dealt with freedom of information requests, data protection issues as well drafted public sector contracts for local authority clients.

Prior to joining Birketts, Ian gained extensive experience over a number of years working within leading dispute resolution departments in London. Ian’s previous experience includes providing support on a wide range of commercial disputes, such as general commercial litigation, fraudulent banking and finance disputes and numerous arbitrations under the LCIA and ICC institutions.

Outside of work, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. Ian is keen to travel to new destinations and also enjoys photography, which he combines with his travelling as much as possible. A keen cyclist and football fan, Ian appreciates long cycle rides around Essex and supports West Ham.
