James is an Associate in our Property Litigation Team, having qualified in September 2015 after completing his training contract at Birketts.
Since qualifying, James has developed a broad range of experience acting for clients on a variety of contentious property matters, but has a particular interest in:
- Property development matters – where James regularly advises clients ranging from commercial developers / housebuilders dealing with large development schemes, to individuals seeking to implement their own development plans, in each case advising on the various issues and pitfalls which can arise in the development cycle.
- Contentious property management matters – where James acts for a number of institutional clients with large property holdings, advising on contentious issues arising on their portfolios, often including commercial lease termination, dilapidations.
- Residential long leasehold matters – where James acts for both freeholders and leaseholders on a wide range of issues such as service charge disputes, breach of lease covenants, right to manage (RTM) claims, and contested lease extension / enfranchisement claims.
James has also trained and qualified as a solicitor-advocate and holds rights of audience in the Higher Courts of England and Wales. He continues to develop his advocacy skills by regularly representing clients in the County Court.
James studied Law at the University of Kent before completing the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Guildford. Prior to joining Birketts he worked in higher education and gained experience at a number of local law firms.
James is based in our Ipswich office.
